Blogging Through the Gospels Mark 14:43-72

Scripture ~ Mark 14:51-52 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.

Observation ~ Young man, as in certain young man means a  youth or an attendant.  Where did he come from?  Why was he there?  Had he just crawled out of bed to see what was going on that he was only wrapped in a linen cloth and not dressed?  He must have been terrified with the Roman soldiers laying "hold on him".

Application ~ I don't know that one could apply this.  But I had to write, even just this little bit, because for all the times I've read Mark, I don't ever recall this young man who was in the area when Jesus was taken.

Prayer ~ Father, I don't know why this young man was there, but I'm sure that some how, in some way, his presence served enough of a purpose to render recording in your word.  Is that it?  That we all serve a purpose though we may not always see it?

More on today's reading can be found here.
