Blogging Through the Gospels Day 2

Matthew 2-3

Scripture ~ Matthew 2:3 When Herod the king had heard [these things], he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

Observation ~ Herod had incomplete information reported by sources that were also working with incomplete information.  This troubled not only Herod, but all Jerusalem with him.  What a fine example of the trouble that comes with gossip and 'news'!  (I've never heard or read a 'news' report that had all the facts simply communicated rather than strategically delivered without a slant - have you?)

Application ~ Continue to keep 'news' as small a part of my intake as possible.

Prayer ~ Father, Let no man deceive me with vain words!  (Eph 5:6)

Scripture ~ Matthew 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

Observation ~ How many times have I read this and yet slid right by this verse?  If there is repentance, there will be fruit as a result.  If there is no evident fruit, is there truly repentance?  How many times have I fooled myself?

Application ~ Look carefully for the fruit that follows repentance.  If there is none, double check the repentance.

Prayer ~ Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10
