Definitions . . .

"What is World Tour Wednesday?" you ask . . .

We are a one vehicle family, living 20 miles north of a metropolitan area.  Mr Perfect works way south, the girls have music lessons way to the south west, and every other Wednesday we have to deliver Daisy further south and east.  We're also a home educating family, so being home is key to getting our work done.  (Sounds silly to say it, I know - but you'd be amazed at how many home educating families run hither and yon several times a week and then wonder why they're always behind!)

Anyway, the easiest way to manage the one vehicle situation, as well as the need lots of time at home situation, is to do everything on Wednesdays.  And I mean EVERYTHING!  Dentist appointments, ND appointments, LMT/Chiro appointments, Orthodontist, WalMart, Costco, Sprouts, Trader Joe's, Target, you name it.

We leave early, load ice packs in the cooler, throw in some lunch and hit the road.  Appointments first anywhere from 3 - 20 miles away if needed, then drop off Mr Perfect at work, another 20 miles south if we're already in the valley.  Then southwest another 20ish miles to Costco, another 5 west to Sprouts, north a few to music lessons.  Back to pick up Mr Perfect, sometimes going to or dropping me off for massage therapy/neck break 15 miles east of there.  Then south 25 miles to drop off Daisy with her dad, then north 30 or so to the library, an additional 10 north to WalMart, and then the final stretch of 3 miles home.

Yes, it can be a lot.  But for the most part, it's just the work drop off/shopping/lessons.  We have, however, had days where we leave at 8:00am and don't return until 6:00, but those marathon days are rare.  I think our record was roughly 200 miles one time.

Most people get a really big 'you're-crazy' look on their face.  Perhaps we are.  But this allows us to manage on one vehicle, and keeps us home the rest of the week to attend to studies.  And trust me, after that long day, we LOVE being home the rest of the week!

  1. Wow! Even though it sounds stressful, it seems like you have a great system. I think I'd really enjoy the part about being home the rest of the week to focus on studies.
    :~) Have a great Wednesday.
